1787: 27 George 3 c.16: An Act for making perpetual two Acts, passed in the fifteenth and seventeenth Years of the Reign of his present Majesty, for restraining the Negotiation of Promissory Notes and Bills of Exchange, under a limited Sum, within that Part of Great Britain called England.

‘WHEREAS an Act was made in the fifteenth Year of the Reign of his present Majesty (intituled, An Act to restrain the Negotiation of Promissory Notes and inland Bills of Exchange, under a limited Sum, within that Part of Great Britain called England), which was to continue in force only for the Term of five Years, and from thence to the End of the next Session of Parliament: And whereas another Act was made in the seventeenth Year of the Reign of his present Majesty

(intituled, An Act for further restraining the Negotiation of Promissory Notes and inland Bills of Exchange, under a limited Sum, within that Part of Great Britain called England); by which the said Act, made in the fifteenth Year of his said present Majesty’s Reign, and also the last mentioned Act, were continued in force, not only for the Residue of the Term of five Years in the said first recited Act mentioned, and from thence to the End of the then next Session of Parliament, and also for the further Term of five Years, and from thence to the End of the then next Session of Parliament: And whereas the said Acts, which have been found to be useful and beneficial, are near expiring, and it is expedient that the said Acts should be made perpetual:’ Be it therefore enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same.

That the said recited Acts, passed in the fifteenth and seventeenth Years of his present Majesty’s Reign, shall be, and are hereby made perpetual.
