1783: 23 George 3 c.51: Repeal of the Egyptians Act

1783: 23 George 3 c.51: An Act to repeal an Act, made in the Fifth Year of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, intituled, An Act for further Punishment of Vagabonds calling themselves Egyptians.

[Preamble. Act 5 Eliz. recited,]

‘WHEREAS an Act, made in the Fifth Year of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, intituled, An Act for further Punishment of Vagabonds calling themselves Egyptians, is and ought to be considered as a Law of excessive Severity;’ be it therefore enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same,

[and repealed.]

That, from and after the first Day of August, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-three, the said Act shall be, and the same is hereby repealed.
