Parl. 16. c. 12.]<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;WHEREAS an Act was passed by the Parliament of Scotland, in the Sixteenth Parliament of His Majesty King James the Sixth, intituled Anent Singular Combats, whereby it is statute and ordained, that no person in Tyme comming without\u00a0His Heighness Licence fight any singular Combat, under the Paine of Death, and his movable Geare escheat to His Heighness Use, and the Provoker to be punished with a more ignominious Death nor the Defender, at the Pleasure of His Majesty:&#8217; And Whereas by another Act of the Parliament of Scotland, passed in the Sixth Session of the First Parliament of the Reign of His Majesty,<\/p>\n<p>[William, 1st Parl. c. 35.]<\/p>\n<p>intituled Act against Duels, it is enacted, &#8216;that whosoever, Principal or Second, or other interposed Person, gives a Challenge to fight a Duel or single Combat, or whosoever accepts the same, or whosoever, either Principal or Second on either Side, engages therein, albeit no fighting ensue, shall be punished by the Pain of Banishment and Escheat of Movables, without prejudice to the Act already made against the fighting of Duels:&#8217; And Whereas it is expedient that the said recited Acts should be repealed;&#8217; Be it therefore enacted by The King&#8217;s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same,<\/p>\n<p>[repealed.]<\/p>\n<p>That from and after the passing of this Act the said recited Acts shall be and the same are hereby repealed.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/statutesatlarge37britgoog\/page\/426\/mode\/2up\">Statutes of the United Kingdom, 1819<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1819: 59 George 3 c.70: An Act to repeal certain Acts of the Parliament of Scotland regarding Duelling.
